Letter to Melanie Chinen, Administrator of State Historic Preservation Division,
The board of Directors of the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology, having heard concerns from its members, resolved to review the conduct of historic preservation review for the Ward Villages Shops development project. The board had learned from the newspapers that several dozen sets of human remains had been discovered after archaeological inventory survey previously identified, eleven sets of retinas. The board was concerned that historic preservation had failed to take into account the effects of the development on historic properties there.
